Areas of Practice

I create individualized plans for each student's needs to ensure success.

Academic Support

Although students come seeking help with math, often the issue is not just content but broader academic support.  Struggles with new content may actually indicate an un recognized gap in foundational skills, since math concepts build on each other.

I communicate with your child's teachers to reinforce current concepts in class, but with individualized practice and guided support that someone responsible for a large group  cannot provide.

As we work together, my students develop a toolbox of strategies that can apply in many situations, from trying out different strategies until one works to checking their existing work for mistakes instead of starting over.  The positive math environment that I create allows them to become more independent.  â€‹

I provide academic support in: 6th-8th grade math, prealgebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Microeconomics

Enrichment

A student who is not challenged by their schoolwork sounds like a good problem to have--but finding a tutor to provide enrichment is often more difficult than finding remedial support.

Enrichment tutoring  begins with a deep consultation with parents, as you are the experts on your child, and what interests/challenges them.

For example, I can build on the learning that your child is doing in class to dig deeper within those concepts and rekindle their interest.  This enrichment focuses on exploratory learning through higher order thinking problems, without needing to move on to new topics.

If appropriate, I can also provide instruction for accelerated learning.  Perhaps your child is looking to test out of an entire course, to study an AP course that conflicts with their schedule independently, or move into an accelerated learning track at their current school or in their next school.

Test Prep

Test prep starts with a comprehensive diagnostic exam to tailor a program unique to your child.

From there, we focus on using content knowledge and concepts specifically within the test topics.

Academic support and more generalized test taking strategies apply here are well.  For example, students are drilled in strategies for multiple choice test in other subjects, but may never have learned how to leverage those strategies in less common multiple choice math questions.  These strategies can be especially helpful for students who have test anxiety or concerns about timed exams.

I provide test prep for the following exams: SHSAT Math, SSAT Math, ISEE Math, SAT Math, ACT Math, Regents Algebra I, Regents Geometry, Regents Precalculus, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, SAT II Math Level I, and SAT II Math Level II

Academic Executive Functioning Support

Some students have the capacity to understand content but struggle with the organizational side of school.  They may need support with task management, with keeping track of assignments and materials, with how to effectively taking notes in class, or just how to stay focused in a large classroom environment that is not always suypportive.

I have learned from personal experience how setting up lasting, neurodivergent- friendly organizational systems can help students build routines and achieve success commensurate with the effort they are putting into schoolwork that others find easy. "Lasting" is important here, as we are seeking to create permanenet habits, not just solve the immediately situation.  I complete regular check-ins with students in person or virtually to ensure that they stay on track as they face new challenges.  Having an outside professional tackle these challenges with your child helps them succeed better and preserves your relationship during what can be tumultuous middle and high school years.  â€‹
